Believe or Get Off the Pot!!!

Matt 9:27-31 (Two Blind Men Healed)

When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”  28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”  They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”  29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”31 But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.

I’m sure that some of you may be “Old School” like me.  I recall while growing up, hearing the extreme encouragement “Piss or Get off the Pot!!!”  This statement was used to help someone get passed a crossroad in their life.  You know what I’m talking about, in Sports a coach might say it when he needed you to push pass the pain of trying something you’ve never done before.  Maybe, it was when you had to push pass a fear, like when I had to jump of the high dive for the first time as a kid.  After climbing to the edge of the 20 foot high platform, I had to either jump or give up and make the humiliating trip back down the ladder.  If you’re not going to piss, the get off of the pot (toilet) because someone else will.

These two Blind Men understood this sentiment, because they were at a crossroad in their lives.  You see these men could not see, but they could hear.  They heard about this great teacher, healer, prophet and miracle worker.  They heard about his teachings and the miracles he’d done.  They heard the commotion in the streets as the multitudes followed this mystery man.  So when Jesus was near they had a choice to make.  They cried out to Jesus, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”   They were saying Lord Jesus pour on us this Grace that you’ve been telling everyone about.  That is when Jesus asked the question of all questions.  “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”  You see the problem for most people is not the inability to know what Jesus can do, most people know that Jesus is able to change our situation, our struggle is believing it!!  Jesus asked the simple but powerful question, do you believe in my ability, do you believe I am who I said I was?

There was only one thing left now for the two blind men.  They had to Believe or Get Off the Pot!!!  They could believe everything they heard or they could give up and choose to remain in their darkness.  The text tells us that the men believed Jesus then they received their sight.  (What are you talking about it does not say they believed)  Look again, Jesus said “According to your faith let it be to you.”  They were healed according to their faith, the Greek word for faith here means “conviction of the truth of anything; belief.”  Jesus told them that they were healed based on their ability to believe.  Don’t be fooled though, their faith was not in them being healed but their belief was in who Jesus was.

God is able to do, just what He said He would do; He will fulfil every promise to you.  We just need to believe He is who He said He was.  Who is He?  The lamb that took away the sins of the world; the “Truth and the Life;” the creator of Heaven and Earth; our Savior; our Friend; our Big Brother; our rock; our confidant; our help, our shield; our everything; the ultimate sacrifice for every one of our sins.

When we believe in the Lord Jesus, we received His salvation.  My encouragement to you today is to Believe or Get Off the Pot!!

Get Some Daddy Time

Ps 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

So this morning, as it is many Saturday mornings, my industrious wife was off to the grocery store early to beat the rush and get back in time to still enjoy the weekend.  So it is up to Daddy to take care of breakfast and spend some quality time with the children.  This time is usually spent with me in the kitchen cooking, and the kids downstairs watching their favorite cartoon or TV show.  Then we eat breakfast together, typically at max speed because the boys want to get back to playing games and or hopeful that I will let them watch another show.  But today was a little different, no hot breakfast, just cold cereal and toaster’s strudel.  This was quickly gobbled up by the kids and I had not even sat down to eat my mix of breakfast and leftovers from last night’s dinner.  My 4 year old daughter was still sitting there and she said these words to me “Daddy can I keep you company while you eat your breakfast?”

Ohhhhhhhh, my heart melted so fast, I could not get the words “Of Course!!!” out of my mouth quick enough.  There was such a smile of my face that I could not wait to sit and spend Daddy Time with my little Princess.  We had such a pleasant time, we talked about questions she needed answers to, things that were fun for her, some things that I did when I was small and our favorite things about playing in the snow yesterday and even sharing some of her fears.  It was then that Jesus spoke to me and said this is exactly what I feel when my children want to spend time with me.

The bible says “In Your presence is fullness of joy” and I have always enjoyed this verse because it reminded me that when I spend time in the Lord’s presence, I will be full of joy.  His joy not mine, this Joy the world could never take away from me, because it did not give it to me.  This joy is not based on my situation or circumstances but based on the Joy of Jesus, whose Joy is unspeakable.  Knowing this makes you look forward to spending time with God so that we can be replenished or be filled.  Today, Jesus revealed to me that it’s not just my joy that will be full, but that Jesus joys in His children desiring to spend time with Him.  He loves to hear from us, He smiles when we tell him what makes us happy, the things we like about being with Him and especially the cares we want to lay at His feet.  Nothing beats Daddy Time for you or Daddy.

Know that Jesus Joys in your presence with Him.  He loves to hear from you and loves to fill you with His unspeakable joy.   In Your presence is fullness of joy

Christmas without Christ!!

John 1:3-5  3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it[1].

This morning I saw this calculated assault on my Lord, Savior and Friend Jesus Christ.

New Billboard in NYC Says ‘Nobody’ Needs ‘Christ During Christmas’

While it was not a surprise, it was still sad.  How much abuse can you possibly take from someone you love so much??  The Cross answers that question over and over again.  Jesus died for everyone, yes even the ones who designed, paid for and authorized this sign.  He loves them abundantly; guess what just as much as He loves you and me.  I know it does not seem like that is possible, but it is the truth.  I just felt like sharing this with you today so that we remember “what manner of Love His is.”

All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made:

Although these atheist (a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods), and I use that term graciously, because they seem to flat out hate Jesus, believe Christmas does not need Christ.  We see in the text that All things were made through Him, Yes Jesus created every things and without Him nothing would exist.  They don’t believe Jesus created them, they just can’t see how that is possible, but that does not change the fact.  I cannot see the air, but every second, I inhale believing that something will enter my lungs and keeps my body functioning.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men:

The phrase “and the life was the light of men” is in the Greek imperfect tense and means that “the life” began to be “the light of men” in the past and continues to be so in the present time.  In essence, Jesus is the source of all life and not only to physical life, but also to spiritual life.  In Jesus we find life, other scriptures let us know that it is abundant life, so we are not even capable of living without the Lord.  Life (Logos) is the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God.  When we are in Christ we receive His life, and His life is awesome (all power, knowledge, presence)!!!   This is what we now have access too.  Without Christ; you get nothing (and without Him nothing was made that was made).
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it:

So say we were to “remove” Christ from Christmas, what would be the result?   Christmas with Christ is just mas, mas in Spanish means “more;” more commercialism, stuff, debt, ungratefulness and just chaos.  According to the billboard the “true meaning,” includes charity, family, friends and food.  How in the world can they remove Christ if this is what they believe is the true meaning??   Let’s just look at their definition or Christmas:  “Charity” is love and (He who does not love does not know God, for God is love[2]), “family”(but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”[3]), friends (but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you[4]) and food (“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.[5]).  I would get upset at the people associated with this billboard, but remember the darkness did not comprehend it.  The dark will never comprehend Jesus, but Jesus will always shine, even on them (And the light shines in the darkness).  He will continue to love them, and put people around them to care for them, giving them time to “change their mind” about Him (The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance[6]).  Jesus died for each one of us and although we have accepted His wonderful act of love in our hearts, not everyone has and according to this John they are not living!!

This Christmas remember that Jesus is the “Center” of everything, because He created all things (In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God[7]) and as we celebrate His love for us, coming as flesh and blood to stand in our place and redeem us from eternal damnation.  Remember that He did it for everyone, so when you come across those who don’t believe in Him, tell them know how much Jesus loves them.

Merry Christmas!!

We’re Never Alone

2 Kings 6:16So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.”

Have you ever felt like you were the only one or one of a few in your walk with Christ?  Sure we know that there are more than 2 billion Christians in the world, but some days when you are going thru life honestly, it  just seems like you’re alone.  The devil has specialized in isolating Christians over the years, whether it was in the Garden with Adam and Eve or in the asylum we set up in our own minds.  When he can get us alone we tend to focus on ourselves, our short comings and our faults rather than the awesome choice that Jesus made on the cross on our behalf.  About 3 and a half years ago my wife were introduced to Joseph Prince’s ministry and began to hear his teachings on God’s Loving Grace.  It has definitely changed the way receive from Jesus and walk in His love for us.  It was so simple and foundational that it was really difficult to accept at first, until the Lord began to show Himself in scripture like never before.

Rejuvenated by the Love of God and knowing how precious I am to Him, it became something I could not wait to share with everyone.  The issue I had was that it was not well received with those who I’d grown up with spiritually; it kind of made me feel isolated.  My wife and I really became the epitome of iron sharpening iron, encouraging each other in the Lord.  Even in that, it would often feel like you’re walking alone at times.

This past weekend I had an Elisha’s servant episode.  In this text Elisha’s servant that he and his master we isolated and surrounded by their enemy.  But what the servant did not realize was “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”  My oldest Son and I took a trip up to NJ to see Joseph Prince who was preaching in Newark, during his first preaching tour in America.  It was our first trip together, just the two of us.  I had a really great time, it was really cool and it reached a pinnacle for me when we found ourselves in the middle of praise and worship with well over 18 thousand other believers lifting up the name of Jesus Christ on one accord.  To see Jesus’ loving embrace caressing each one of us was tremendous.  I saw Jesus overflow my son’s heart with His joy, so much so that all he could do was cry.  He told me that he was so happy and he knew that Jesus loved him.  Are you kidding me???  It was as if Elisha was praying for me to have my eyes opened and that night I was reminded like Elisha’s servant “And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around ME.”

It’s Our Presence……

Ps 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Have you heard these words before: “How can you go to God now after what you’ve done?”  “You will not hear Jesus if you sin!!” or even “You have to repent of all of your sin before you enter the Lord’s presence.”   Who do you think is the author of these quotes!!!

Let me give you a hint, he is the Father of Lies (John 8:44), the Accuser of the Brethren (Revelation 12:10) or better known as the Devil.  It is yet another of his many tricks to keep us from tapping into the power that is inside of all of us.  If he can constantly remind us of our sin, we will focus on it and never look to Jesus, who died on the cross for the forgiveness of all of our (your & mine) sin; once and for all.    Don’t believe me?? Check out the Word……

  1. 1.      Gen 3:9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”  10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
    Or
  2. 2.      Gen 4:9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”  He said,”I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.

Take a quick look; Adam and Eve sinned and they immediately knew they were naked, so look at God’s response…The Lord came looking for them.  What about Cain and Abel?  Right after Cain killed his brother, who showed up?  Our Lord, yep yours and mine.  Jesus never turns His back on us, He never leaves us or forsakes us (Heb 13:5).  Why!!!  He Loves us!! His love is amazing and He is always looking for us.  It is our presence that He is after, when we really love someone we enjoy spending time with them and Jesus loves spending time with us.  So much so that when we are in His presence He gives us “the path of life,” “fullness of joy” & “pleasures forevermore.”

Too often we let sin cause us to look everywhere but Jesus; look at what Adam and Cain focused on, Adam feared (I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself) and Cain lied (He said,”I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?)…When our focus is on our sin…we fear our King and lie to ourselves.  We neglect the Lord’s presence and miss out on His abundant joy and wondrous blessings, forgetting that we can never leave His presence.  What then are we left with…guilt, sorrow, broken hearts; we become captives of our own despair.  But we must look to Jesus the “Author and Finisher of our Faith (Heb 12:2);” after all He came to save us and redeem us….  Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

No More Holding Back

Ps 63:3 Because Your loving kindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You.  4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.  5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips

Today at church I heard a song that I absolutely love, it was only about the 3rd time that I’ve heard the song (which doesn’t mean that it is new, just new to me), but it had the same impact that it always seem to have….Surrender!!!  But today was something special; the words of the song are simple “I surrender all to you; everything I give to you; withholding nothing- withholding nothing.”  As I raised one of my hands and enjoyed the worship, I heard Jesus say so lovingly “You’re still holding back… when you lift up both hands in worship, you let go of everything you’re holding on to and reach for Me.”   When I lifted my other hand, the tears began to flow, not out of sadness or shame, but out of a wonderful since of peace and joy.  You cannot help but feel the love of the Jesus, when He assures you that He wants to take care of ALL, every single aspect of your life.

Look at Psalm 63, when we lift up our hands we acknowledge the Lord’s love for us and demonstrate our faith is in His loving kindness towards us.  Our surrender causes us to want to praise and bless the Lord, then we are able to see the Lord satisfy all of our need and fill us with joy.  Give everything to the Jesus, the good and the bad, highs and lows; if it is a part of your life let Him have it and He will satisfy your every need and lovingly give you His abundant joy.

Enter God’s Presence With Boldness & Assurance

I get so irritated with my two boys every now and then, for many reasonsJ, but specifically for this blog, when I call them after they have done something wrong.  You see my ever playful and happy go lucky oldest son becomes stoic and depressed, his movement is slow and speech is nearly silent.  My overtly loud, flamboyant, loving and often obnoxious younger son becomes miniscule, basically disappearing with the only the top of his head visible to me, as he looks directly to the ground in horror.  My response is often “Pick your head up!! You weren’t looking like this when you did it, so why are you looking like that now.”   And this often shifts their countenance from extreme guilt and embarrassment to all out fear.  WHY??

Well it is obvious “they are no good little twerps that need a good hard beating to get them back in line.”  Of course not I love them both tremendously, but I know that this is how they feel sometimes because my anger has gotten the best of me and I may have smacked them upside the head, snatched them up  or whatever other method that honestly was more than acceptable when I was growing up J.  Now why I say this in just, most of us know that there have been times where we’ve over reacted because we were upset.  And the very thought of coming into my presence reminds my kids of those previous reaction to their mistakes.  While my wife and I (much like all of you) have tried our very best to respond and correct our kids in a way that most reflects God’s response to us, we have often and will at times fall so very short.

Fast forward the years and look at how many of us respond to God today, so often when we have failed, sinned or done something that is just way outside of our character; we find ourselves in a similar position when entering the Lord’s presence.  We feel the same embarrassment, shame and honestly fear.  The truth is the enemy will put on his best voice imitation to tell us all of the negative we’ve done and why we should feel shame in hopes of keeping us from going into the Lord’s presence at all or at least making us feel like this while we’re there.  HOW????  Because we too often see God as our father treating us in a similar way that we do or have been treated by our fathers…..that could not be further from the truth.

The Truth Is:
Hebrews 10:15-18
15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

The Holy Spirit reminds us that God was clear about why He sent Jesus.   Jesus’ shed blood was to introduce this new covenant that would relieve us from having to experience the above scenario when coming into the presence of God (or keeping you from entering His presence).  According to the Law “all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission (of sin),” Jesus’ blood allows God the ability to remember no more!!  We as parents don’t have that same ability (which is just one more thing that makes Jesus so precious).  There are so many times I wish I had that ability, because forgiveness would be so much easier.  While it is very difficult to comprehend with our finite minds, we can BY FAITH BELIEVE that God says “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”  You should not stop there, we also believe that “Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin”  Today there is remission, which Strong’s defines as release from bondage or imprisonment;  forgiveness or pardon, of sins (letting them go as if they had never been committed), remission of the penalty.  Those were not my words but Jesus’.  Now that there is remission by the Blood of Jesus “there is no longer an offering for sin.”  There is no need for an offering because “It Is Finished!!!”  Once again Jesus’ words not mine.

Now nothing here exalts sin or advocates for sin, God hates sin (so do I) Sooooooooooo much, so much that He dealt with it forever on the Cross!!!.  And because Sin has been dealt with and forever destroyed, God will not remember them anymore….ON PURPOSE.  What is that purpose:
Hebrews 10:19-22
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Let His word minister to you, there is a lot in this passage, let it free you from the bondage that you’ve often subjected yourselves to.  Jesus loves you so much; allow His word to transform you with Boldness and Assurance.

It’s Time To Take Away The Stone

John 11:38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.39 Jesus said, “Take Away The Stone.”

Jesus has a word for you today and it is “Take Away The Stone.”  Most of you are familiar with the story of Lazarus, so I will not rehash the whole thing (if not, read all of John chapter 11 when you get a chance).

Before Mary, Martha and the people of Bethany could experience Jesus’ miraculous resurrection power, a huge stone had to be removed.  This stone is historically believed to be very heavy and not able to be moved by one or two persons.  Some historians consider it to be like a boulder, so I looked up the definition of boulder “a large rock fragment formed by detachment from its parent consolidated rock by weathering and erosion.”  Basically, a small (in some cases rounded) piece of a large and solid foundation that has broken off due to a natural process.  In this text, this stone was the only thing separating the power of Jesus from Mary & Martha’s dead situation.

What is your stone, what is keeping Jesus’ resurrection power from making those dying areas of your life new, vibrant, joyful and exciting?  Heartbreak, pain, hurt, disappointment, guilt, failure, insecurity and many other experiences in life slowly chip away at the solid foundation of FAITH that we’ve received from God.  Many of us, OK all of us have situations in our lives that have been dead or dying.  Whether it is a broken marriage or relationship; job lost; deteriorating health; miscarriage; dream shattered; wayward child; foreclosure, bankruptcy, or just an overall feeling of depression, we have all experienced the type of pain that takes a toll on us.  Devastating events like this can cause your faith to be fractured, producing stones that just like this text, stand between Jesus and our dead situations.

Jesus told Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. “I hear what you’re saying, “I know Jesus can do what He did for Martha & Mary for everyone,” but the problem is you no longer believe that He can do it for your situation.  You won’t come out and say it, but your heart is full of doubt.  It is not because you’re some kind of weak Christian; it is because you are human (it’s natural just like the forming of a boulder).

The Lord’s miracles in our lives are activated by our faith.  When we believe that Jesus is who He says He is and that He has what the bible tells us He has, then He will do what He has promised us He will do.  Jesus is calling out today for you to “Take Away The Stone,” no longer allow the hurt and pain in your life to hinder the faith you have in your Savior, the Almighty God, the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.  The Lord desires to breathe His life into your seemingly dead situations.  Jesus has given new life to a dead marriage; birth from a barren womb, a new business from a pink slip and vibrant health from a cancer diagnosis.  Jesus desires to show off His power in your life, believe in Jesus again and what was dead will come back to life.

Love Always Outshines Hate

Matt 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

As I was looking on the internet today I saw yet another article about a Pastor nearly threatening homosexuals from the pulpit.  I must say I will forever believe the bible and what it teaches us about homosexuality and sexual sin.  I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and just because I believe this does not mean I am homophobic.  What I cannot understand is why many Christians take parts of the bible and use them to emphasize on our pet peeves, yet completely go against other biblical principles as if they do not exist.  It is often hard for some to understand that we were all born with a sin nature and that all sin is just that; SIN (no hierarchy).

Jesus told us that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves and love our enemies as well.  Why not spend our time in the pulpit telling and teaching people about Jesus Christ, who He is, what He has done for ALL of us and all that He has empowered us to enjoy.  I currently live in CA (in the process of moving), so I’ve seen and heard much more than I’ve ever wanted regarding many LGBT agendas.  Even with that being said, it is clear to me that there is only one thing which will win the heart of a sinner, and that is the Love of Jesus Christ.  Let’s give people life and a chance to be introduced to the lover of our souls.  When we do this, we may be like Paul, doing all that he could to evangelize; “by all means save some (1 Cor 9:20-22).”

Jesus said to love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.  He then uses the conjunction that, to show us why we should show this love.

  1. To Be His Sons[that you may be sons of your Father in heaven] The word be in this text means (to become, come into existence, begin to be, receive being), we become a Son of God when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior, but sinners do not see that.  What do sinners see?  Love, when it comes from someone that they hate, don’t trust or are afraid of.  You become a Son of God, the very Jesus that they cannot see, when you love rather than spew hatred and ignorance.  Most unsaved people respect Christians that actions & words align.  Jesus would never say some of the things that we are hearing from Christians pulpits today.   When we apply His word, it speaks volumes even to our enemies.  Be a Son to those who need to see one.
  2. To Be His Blessingsfor He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust Jesus reminds us a few things here, He (The Triune God) makes the Sun rise and the rain fall for everyone not just Christians but sinners also.  The sun always represents some aspect of Jesus’ character and the rain always represents the Holy Spirit.  It is a good thing too, because we were not always saved and had He not shined and rained on us, we would still be in the same category as other sinners (including unsaved homosexuals).  But check this out, when we love our enemies we are a blessing to them and give an opportunity for our enemies to experience the same sun & rain.  Bless those who we know need Jesus, because hate only brings about death (Matt 5:21-22).

Remember, we did not love Christ first; He loved us and then died for ALL of our sins.  He loves homosexuals just as much as He loves us so let’s get on His page and off our “high horse”.  I’m not telling you to go and participate in the many antics and presentations of the LGBT movement, nor to embrace their values.  We do not have to agree, but we certainly do not need to hate either.  We will never win a single homosexual to Christ by way of hate, but if our goal is not to lead them to Christ, we may need to reevaluate our purpose.  Just some food for thought!

Love ya!
