The enemy is coming after you; that is normal (he comes to kill, steal, and destroy), but the question we need to ask ourselves is whether or not we are devourable?  Devourable is an adjective that means able to be eaten quickly, or capable of being consumed and enjoyed eagerly.  The enemy is eager to consume each of us, but the good thing is he cannot.  See the text:

1 Peter 5:6-8 NKJV Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.  8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

The enemy is a roaring lion; he was once an angel who had longed to be God, and he was sent from heaven to become Satan.  Now, he continues to long for God’s position.  He knows that is impossible, so he goes after the next best thing; he seeks God’s position in our minds.

Proverbs 20:2 NKJV The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.

When he tries to be the voice of a wrathful king, pretending to be God’s wrath, if we as believers hear God’s wrath, we doubt the forgiveness that Jesus died to give each of us.  If the enemy can keep us thinking that God is angry with us, we will never have peace, security, and even hope.  The key is understanding that Satan is not a roaring lion, but he too often acts like one to draw us away from God.

Hosea 11:10 NKJV “They shall walk after the Lord. He will roar like a lion.  When He roars, Then His sons shall come trembling from the west.

We as believers are Jesus’ sheep, and His sheep know His voice.  When He speaks, His sons shall come trembling. The way we become devourable is to stop listening to the one who is “like a roaring lion” and hear the Lion of Judah.  Fill up with the Word of God so that the Holy Spirit has something to recall when we need it most.  John 14:26 But the Comforter, who is the Holy Ghost whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
